Mother’s Day 2022

--

Another Mother’s Day accompanying my husband to visit his mother; this will be the first time since the pandemic. As we settle in for a long overdue visit, we notice a new neighbor. Later, as I head back to our car so my husband can have a few minutes alone with his mom, the new neighbor’s family arrives. Before returning to the car, he stops to chat with the neighbor’s adult children. He learns the neighbors originally immigrated from Ukraine and attended the same Lithuanian Catholic church in Los Angeles, where he was baptized as an infant. They also attended the same Lithuanian community center his grandmother frequented before returning to Lithuania. As we head home, I remark that his father will be pleased to learn that a fellow Eastern European is resting peacefully beside his wife, and he will join them someday.
